Proposal for ICIG 2017 Special Session on
Large-Scale Multimedia Analysis and Computing
Organizers:
Dr. Shengchuan Zhang (Xiamen University, China)
Prof. Yue Gao (Tsinghua University, China)
Motivation
With the rapid development of Internet, cloud storage technology, and multimedia devices, tremendous amounts of multimedia data have been accumulated on the web, the world has entered the era of multimedia big data. The enormous multimedia data contains rich economic value and social value, has brought new challenges and opportunities for the national economic and social development. As the amount of multimedia data is growing fast, how to efficiently store, manage and analyze them, has become a highly concerned problem for researchers and engineers. Conducting multimedia analysis and computing is expected to create, distribute and host the multimedia.
Multimedia analysis and computing is challenging because of the diversity and complexity of multimedia content and application. The development is constrained mainly by multidisciplinary understanding of human perception and behavior. Recently, great advancements in machine learning and artificial intelligence have made large-scale analysis and computing of multimedia a possibility. This has received a lot of interest and attention from both academic and industrial research communities.
This special session seeks original contributions reporting the most recent progress on multimedia analysis and computing technologies for large-scale multimedia data. The topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
- Content analysis of text, images and videos
- Multimedia tagging, retrieval and recommendation
- Static and dynamic object detection and recognition
- Deep learning for multimedia analysis and computing
- Fusion methods for multimedia analysis and computing
- Robust Features for multimedia analysis and computing
- Cross-modal analysis and computing
- Multimedia analysis and computing based applications in entertainment, education and health care, etc.
Paper Submission
Authors should prepare their manuscripts according to the Instructions for Authors of the ICIG 2017 at http://www.icig2017.org/. All the papers will be peer-reviewed following the ICIG 2017 reviewing procedures. During the submission, the authors should indicate that this is a submission for the special session on “Large-Scale Multimedia Analysis and Computing” (i.e., select the appropriate special session title under the category \Manuscript Type"). All submissions will undergo a blind peer review by three expert reviewers to ensure a high standard of quality. Referees will consider originality, significance, technical soundness, clarity of exposition, and relevance to the special session topics above.
